Ishpeming Art Faire and Renaissance Festival 2011

Ishpeming, Michigan Bancroft Park –  August 6, 2011 – The twelfth Annual Ishpeming Renaissance Festival brought together artist, period performers, vendors and “costumes inspired by historical culture.”   Vikings, Samuri, Pirates and a Fire Eater mixed with more traditional Renaissance performers and presentations.   Families watched and kids even joined in the fun with dancers, musicians, singers, swordsman and Renaissance games, often mesmerized by ax throwing and sword fights.

A bit warm and humid,  breezes  blew across the lakeside park all day, providing great relief to costume performers and visitors. While ominous clouds threaten all day, only sprinkles fell from opening at 10a to close at 7p, when it finally poured as the festival wrapped up.

Music and stage performances included fight demonstrations, Midwest Amateur Renaissance Society, blacksmith demos, Society of Creative Anachronism, Kojokon Shinbutai Samurai, and period demonstrations and costumes throughout day.  Many attendees came wearing their own designs.
